BorgWarner, Teamsters Union Reach Agreement to Protect Health Insurance

Ithaca-Based Auto Supplier to Continue Offering Affordable Healthcare to Employees

Strike Averted After Union, Company Come to Terms

Ithaca, NY - BorgWarner and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters have reached an agreement that will protect the health insurance of employees at the Ithaca-based auto supplier.

The agreement comes after a month-long strike by Teamsters Local 210, which represents about 300 workers at the plant.

The strike was prompted by BorgWarner's proposal to increase the cost of employee health insurance premiums. The union argued that the increase would have been unaffordable for many workers.

Under the new agreement, BorgWarner will continue to offer affordable health insurance to its employees. The company will also contribute more money to the union's health and welfare fund.

"We are pleased that we were able to reach an agreement that is fair to both the company and our employees," said Steve Abbott, president of Teamsters Local 210.

"This agreement ensures that our members will continue to have access to affordable health insurance," Abbott said.

BorgWarner is a global supplier of automotive parts and systems. The company has been in Ithaca since 1955.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is one of the largest trade unions in the United States, representing over 1.4 million workers in a wide range of industries.
