Schar Shines as Magpies Break Villa Park Unbeaten Record
Newcastle United became the first team to defeat Aston Villa at Villa Park in the Premier League this season with a convincing 3-1 victory on Monday evening. Fabian Schar was the hero for the Magpies, scoring twice in the first half to put his team in control.
Aston Villa started brightly and took the lead in the 11th minute through Jacob Ramsey. However, Newcastle responded well and equalized just four minutes later through Schar. The Swiss defender then put Newcastle ahead in the 34th minute with a powerful header.
Villa pushed for an equalizer in the second half, but Newcastle's defense held firm. The Magpies extended their lead in the 83rd minute through Ollie Watkins, who tapped in from close range after good work from Allan Saint-Maximin.
The victory moves Newcastle up to 11th place in the Premier League standings, while Aston Villa remains in 14th.
